On my journey to the Röszke checkpoint between Hungary and Serbia, I collected fruits and vegetables. Primarily, I travelled there for my piece Claiming Gate of Hope. Whilst cycling through rural Hungary, I passed endless fields of paprika and small farming villages, where fruits grew over the farmhouses fences. I picked as much as I could carry, taking grapes, pears and paprika across the border to Serbia. I cued up at the checkpoint, my passport and my identity were checked with suspicious eyes but with a new stamp in my passport, they let me through. In Serbia I picked apples, plums and grapes. With my collection of fruits and vegetables, I headed back the same day the same way I had come, crossing at checkpoint Röszke with the same procedure.
